SUBJECT: Newsletter: It's already February!?

Groundhog Day
FEBRUARY 6TH, 2023

Welcome back from winter break round 2!

Talk about Groundhog's Day....

January has flown by and we're into the first full week of February—the month we celebrate and recognize Black History and show appreciation for our friends and loved ones during Friendship Week. With that, we hope you take a moment to reflect on the diversity of our school and the services Jackson Elementary staff and faculty provide for our children.

Now back to PTA, you're probably wondering what the heck we do. Well, we do a lot and a lot more than raising funds, but first, we'll feature a short snippet of our members each month!

Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves!
Niki Roberts, Jackson PTA President
Niki Roberts, President

Meet our PTA President for the 2022-2023 school year! Originally from Houston, Niki is mom to two boys, a 4-yr old and 2nd grader Ethan, and has lived in Plano for 11 years. Fearlessly, Niki took on the challenge of becoming President her first year on PTA, and she is absolutely killing it!
Niki joined PTA to become more involved with the school, unite parents, and help students and teachers have a better school year. Outside of PTA, Niki can be found enjoying the outdoors, spending time with loved ones, and watching movies.

Patricia Treviño, VP Communications

I'm your editor-in-chief and mom to Briella in 4th grade! We've been at Jackson since Kindergarten and this is my 4th year with PTA, 2nd as Communications Chair. One of the reasons I joined PTA was to coordinate the National PTA Reflection's program. I am an avid supporter of the arts and advocate as many opportunities as I can. In my spare time (what spare time!?), I enjoy reading, crafting, and aerial training with Briella.

Andrea Versher, VP Volunteers
Andrea Versher, VP Volunteers

Mother to Eden in 2nd grade and little Eila who's headed to Jackson in 2025, Andrea is a San Antonio native but has lived in the Plano area for 30 years! This is Andrea's 2nd year with Jackson PTA and joined to be more involved with the goings-on at her daughter's school. Her hobbies include an assortment of crafts and creating delicious meals and baked goods.

Our Mission: Advocate for students while promoting community involvement... but what does that even mean!?
What We Do

We're constantly raising funds, but what do those funds actually do for our kids?

For starters, We...

  • Find the best price to purchase wholesale school supplies, which provides a more cost efficient rate to families of our students
  • Organize and coordinate vendors and any extras for Fall and Spring Picnic
  • Bring in speakers for in-school assemblies
  • Sponsor the 5th Grade graduation ceremony
  • Coordinate vendors for various Teacher Appreciation events
  • Reserve allotted funds for each grade level use
  • Collaborate with vendors in creating the school's yearbook - Send us your pictures!
  • Act as a support system for other parents and students in our community
How You Can Help

We understand joining PTA can is perceived as a serious time commitment, and at times, it can be. Luckily, we provide several other options to allow even the busiest parents opportunities to participate and support our school.

  • Grocery shopping? Send your receipt to Box Tops.
  • Browsing Amazon? Be sure you're registered with Amazon Smile.
  • Reading with kiddo/s every night? Keep an eye out for our March fundraiser.
  • Hungry? Check the Events calendar for the next Spirit Night and join us for a family meal.
  • Have a minute? Volunteer!
From classroom help to field trip chaperone, we have options perfect for your schedule no matter the frequency.**

DALLAS MAVERICKS READING CHALLENGE

Our Jackson Jaguars are already encouraged to read 20 minutes a day, why not log that time to earn badges with the Dallas Mavericks!? The Mavs are challenging kids and teens, ages 0-18, to read or be read to, at least 20 minutes a day. Earn badges for completing fun MAVS activities and for every 10 days you read, up to 40 days. Read 40 days or more for a MAVS SWAG BAG and a grand prize entry. The more you read the better your chances of winning the grand prize!

Annually between January 1st and March 31st!

Jackson parents can use this challenge as an opportunity to spend quality time with family as well. Take a break and grab a book with the kid/s, find a new reading spot outdoors, at the library, in a park, wherever!
